Wreck-It Ralph Returns March 9th, 2018

The big guy is back! And he's taking over the world.

Earlier this week Disney Animation Studios posted a teaser for a big announcement on Thursday morning. Today’s the day!

Zootopia director, Rich Moore, and co-director of Wreck-It Ralph 2, Phil Johnston appeared live on Facebook this morning. During a chat about an upcoming film, John C. Reilly appears walking past the screen and asking random questions. He jokes about leaking the announcement a few months ago and they give him the go ahead to announce the date live today.

Four years ago Wreck-It Ralph hit theaters on November 2nd, 2012. Well Ralph is coming back! Wreck-It Ralph 2 is coming March 9th, 2018.

Reilly says of the film, “It’s top secret but I’ll tell you this one…Ralph leaves the arcade and wrecks the internet. What could go wrong?”

He continues, “I’m personally looking forward to getting back into the saddle. I look forward to famous lines like ‘I’m gonna wreck it.’ Kids in grocery stores ask me to say ‘I’m gonna wreck it.'” He shouts “I’m gonna wreck it!” one more time and slams through the brick wall to a crowd of people celebrating. Ironically, this had to be done in two separate Facebook Live events because of a glitch.

Disney’s official blog, Oh My Disney gives us even more insight:

“From the moment we started working on the first Wreck-It Ralph, we knew there were so many possibilities with these characters,” said Moore, who has been developing it since shortly after the release of the first film, and while directing this year’s critically-acclaimed hit Zootopia with Byron Howard. “This time, Ralph’s wrecking wreaks havoc on the Web—as only he can do. Characters we loved in the first film are back and we are ecstatic to be working with them—and the actors who voice them—once again.”

“The world of the internet is the perfect place to send Ralph and Vanellope,” said Johnston. “The scope and scale are so vast and the possibilities for comedy are endless.”

“Ralph is a character very near and dear to my heart,” added Reilly. “I’m really looking forward to playing the big lug again. Making the first Wreck it Ralph was one of the most special experiences I’ve ever had and I’m really looking forward to bringing him back to life. So many kids I’ve met all over the world are excited to see him again too. They tell me all the time!”

Are you ready or Ralph to return to the big screen?

Big dreams yield many failures so up & at 'em, kids. Writing about the massive empire that Disney's become. And honestly, I don't mind at all. Excuse me while I fan boy.
