Marvel Movies on SDCC: Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Guardians & more!

With a surprising new marvel Guardians ride revealed

Marvel presented fans with a lot of exclusive news and trailers for their upcoming cinematic universe projects including Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Thor Ragnarok, Spider-Man Homecoming & Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. They kicked off the show presenting their brand new “Marvel Studios” logo & intro, with fanfare music composed by Michael Giacchino.

After, the cast of Black Panther took the stage to confirm their character roles: Lupita Nyong’o is playing Nakia, Michael B Jordan is playing Erik Killmonger and Danai Gurira is playing Okoye, head of the Dora Milaje. The presentation of the film wraps up with an official logo, filming will start on January with Ryan Coogler in the director’s chair.

The show continues with Thor Ragnarok, where they revealed the unexpected 80’s-style logo for the film! The movie is in its first 5 days of filming. No footage or extra info was shown but audiences were treated with concept art that showed a Gladiator Hulk, new haircut for Thor & a different type of Alien. A funny montage created by the director of the film Taika Wititi, was shown. The montage presented what Thor and Hulk were doing during Civil War.

Marvel then moved to Doctor Strange, where they showed exclusive footage for the audience. The clip shows the moment where Doctor Strange meets the Ancient One for the first time. Later, they revealed a brand new trailer and poster with stunning visuals that’s thankfully available online!

Director Jon Watts & actor Tom Holland then took the stage to talk & present new information and footage for their upcoming & eagerly awaited Spider-Man: Homecoming film. They talked briefly about how the film is a grounded high school movie and treated audiences with bits of footage from the film that caused laughter among the attendees and ended presenting the much-speculated villain – Vulture. While the footage is not available online, a concept art featuring Vulture was released online.

The show continued with the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 taking the stage, along with a couple of alien Ravager creatures that started teasing the main cast. A clip was presented exclusively to the audience, where little Groot is helping Yondu and Rocket Raccoon escape from Ravagers.

A surprising announcement is then unveiled with the confirmation that the Tower of Terror in Disney California of Adventure will now become the Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout ride. The ride will feature Benicio del Toro returning as the collector. Concept art of the ride is shown, where you can see is a ride themed to the collector’s station; the ride is expected to open on summer 2017. The Guardians presentation then ended with an exclusive trailer of the new film. See a trailer of sorts for the new Guardians of the Galaxy ride.

Finally, Marvel ended the show with the confirmation of actress Brie Larson taking the role of Captain Marvel, with her logo unveiled.
